On Sunday, March 11, the SPIN Choir had the opportunity to perform the national anthem on the ice in front of a large audience of high spirited hockey fans at a the Trenton Titans hockey game.

SPIN is so proud to announce that for the 10th time, our organization ranks among the world's leaders in professional development according to Training Magazine. Attending the Training Top 125 event at the World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia on Feb. 13, 2012, SPIN's CEO, Kathy Brown McHale and Executive Director, Judy Dotzman accepted the award on behalf of the organization.

SPIN has lost $1.9 million and, like other agencies, has had to turn prospective clients away. There are nearly 16,000 people statewide on the waiting list for these services, including 2,930 in Philadelphia.

On Tuesday, February 7, SPIN's President and CEO, Kathy Brown McHale, along with self advocates, Mitchell Gaskins, Barbara Romanisky, Robert Rosenberg and parent and board trustee, Joanne Leonard had the opportunity to participate in a discussion with Philadelphia Inquirer reporter, Monica Yant Kinney at Vision for Equality. The focus of the interview centered around the 6% cut that ODP programs are currently experiencing across the Commonwealth for this fiscal year and the fear of even more cuts to come.

In keeping with the spirit of giving associated with most cultural holidays celebrated throughout the month of December, Children's Services at SPIN Northeast participated in a community service project during December. The project was in partnership with our families. The project was a food drive in association with a mission's food bank.

The families of the children in our programs are members of many different cultures that celebrate holidays in many different ways. Children's Services decorated with items to represent the various holidays that are celebrated during this month. These holidays include Hanukkah, Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Kwanzaa, and Eidul-Fitr.
