Direct Support Professional Substitutes
As a Direct Support Professional Substitute you will provide support to individuals with mental health/mental retardation on an as-needed basis. Responsibilities include encouraging growth toward independence in activities of daily living, socialization, community involvement, and support in expression of choices. This position affords the opportunity for professionals seeking job fulfillment while earning extra income.
DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL SUBSTITUTES PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL COVERAGE ON VARIOUS SHIFTS. SCHEDULES INCLUDE DAY, EVENING, OVERNIGHT, AND WEEKENDS.
Additional responsibilities include:
* Provide person centered support to all individuals.
* Introduces new experiences, offers and implements choices of individuals.
* Teaches skills for adult life in social, recreational, leisure, community and household
activities.
* Ensures health and safety by following each individual’s plan for nutrition, exercise,
medication, therapies and other specific health and safety goals.
• Promotes effective teamwork through effective communication with other Direct
Support Professionals, Home Life Coordinators, therapists and management staff.
Requirements include:
* High School Diploma or GED.
* At least 18 years of age
* Valid driver’s license.
* Participation and completion of a paid 2.5 week pre-service training program.
* Experience working directly with adults with mental retardation/mental health
preferred.
* Experience providing supports to individuals with behavioral health a plus.
* Excellent oral & written communication skills.
* Patience and flexibility is a must.
* Ability to work with a variety of people in various settings.
