SPIN Receives $50,000 from the Nonprofit Finance Fund for Children's Play Park!

Monday; July 21, 2008

The Nonprofit Finance Fund, located in Philadelphia, is dedicated to increasing the impact of nonprofits on their communities by helping them to get the capital and knowledge they need to succeed. The William Penn Foundation provides the grant funds to the Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF) specifically to increase quality and/or capacity of area child care centers. This is the second grant SPIN has received from the NFF, the first was for $30,000 in 2006 for restoration of the roof at 10541 Drummond.

To be approved for this grant of $50,000, the maximum the NFF provides, we submitted our proposal for the children's play park with a detailed plan, budget and financial information last fall. A site visit by the NFF occurred in the winter with a request for more detailed information on the project. Of utmost importance to the NFF is the knowledge that their grant will result in a completed project that will directly benefit children and the capacity of a quality nonprofit agency. Their analysis of SPIN's execution of this project to date, our commitment of our own funds through fund raising efforts to the project, how we managed the previous project they funded and our overall financial, managerial and programmatic strength is what "cinched the deal!"

Receiving $50,000 toward a project that is expected to cost over $400,000 may seem like a drop in the bucket, but this is about 12% of the total cost of project. Equally important as the money is the knowledge that SPIN's quality, integrity, accountability for results and ability to execute as planned shines through in everything we do. This grant award reflects positively on all of us, so whether you give through Annual Giving, or deliver outcomes on behalf of those we support, or (hopefully) both; thank you once again for all you do!
