Councilwoman Joan Krajewski Honors DSPs during National DSP Week
Thursday; September 18, 2008
This past summer, the U.S. Senate designated the week of September 8 through 12, as National Direct Support Professionals Week. SPIN did something everyday to acknowledge the work of direct care workers. David Losinno sent letters to each DSP expressing his gratitude for the job they do daily. A bag of goodies was assembled with an appreciation poem and delivered to each home to reach each DSP personally by senior management. Assisting Directors and Directors all made the week special by expressing their gratitude and or doing nice things throughout the week for the people they work with. On September 11, 2008, SPIN held a special rally inviting all the homes to Norcom Community Center to honor support staff. Councilwoman Joan Krajewski presented a citation to SPIN from the City of Philadelphia in honor of the work they do daily. Mike Covone, Director for the Behavioral Health and Mental Retardation Services for the City of Philadelphia was also present to give his appreciation. David Losinno spoke to the crowd of DSPs, the people we support, board members, staff and invited guests about the vital role of a direct care worker. The presentation ended with cake. The life of a DSP worker helps make everyday a better day for the people we support!
